The narrative around birth is generally focused on the health of the baby, as long as they are ‘ok’, women are often encouraged to put a difficult birth behind them. There often is little or no support for women to process their experience.
After my own birth experience I have come to care passionately about (the lack of) post-natal mental health support. The physical and/or emotional distress you may have experienced during or after childbirth can leave you feeling unsupported, helpless and unheard. This can generate complex feelings which can impact on your relationship with your baby, partner and importantly yourself.
The birth reflection session offers a safe and compassionate space for you to be heard, and to share and process your birth experience. During the session we will pay close attention to your body’s responses and the feelings that emerge when talking about your experience. Expressing these feelings will help us to identify themes to explore together. I hope by the end, you will better understand your birth, resolve any potential self blame and reclaim the narrative.
I offer birth reflections as one to one sessions; we can meet as many times as you feel is necessary. I also offer a 3 week group workshop; mothers have particularly found that connecting with other parents, sharing experiences and finding a community can be extremely healing.
